20 Mar Easter Holidays in Mallorca
Easter in Spain is full of processions that fill the cities with tradition. Many symbolize thePassion of Christ and are really colorful and impressive. Mallorca is one of those cities where on the main Easter holidays you can experience the local Easter rituals.
On Holy Thursday the ¨Crist de la Sang¨ takes place performed by the guilds that make their long way through the streets. Each brotherhood is dressed in robes and cone shaped hoods. On their shoulders they carry heavy religious statues while a band plays solemn music.
The next day, on Holy Friday, they celebrate a recreation of the passion of the Crist. This event takes place on the steps of the cathedral of Palma. It starts at noon and will continue into the holy burial that starts at the exit of the San Francisco church at around 19:30.
In these days of passion, Easter Sunday arrives with its lively ‘Procession of the Holy Encounter’. This is a representation of the reunion of the risen Jesus with his mother. A very beautiful symbolic show where a group of men carry the image of Jesus to a group of women who are carrying the image of the Virgin Mary.
Besides that the city of Palma also organizes cultural events that you’ll love. And if not … you can always enjoy the good weather and the beautiful beaches of Mallorca.
